Urwerk Redesigns Entry-Level UR-100V with Ceramic Case
"LightSpeed" in Glass Fiber Ceramic Composite.
Urwerk continues to refine its most accessible model with the introduction of the UR-100V "LightSpeed" ceramic version. LightSpeed ��is essentially an upgrade to the earlier model, replacing the carbon fiber composite with a ceramic composite. This ceramic composite, combining glass fiber and carbon fiber, results in a richer surface texture and greater strength.
While relatively affordable compared to other Urwerk models, the UR-100V retains the brand's signature elements, including a wandering hour display and various astronomical time indicators on the dial.

While the UR-100V now boasts numerous versions, perhaps too many, Lightspeed stands out as one of the most striking due to its materials and design. The ceramic composite case combines aesthetics and practicality—hard, strong, and lightweight—a first for Urwerk. Furthermore, its price isn't significantly higher than previous versions, making this new addition even more attractive.
More broadly, I hope Urwerk can make some changes to the dial display in the UR-100V series, besides the case material, to make each generation more unique. Currently, most UR-100V watches use the same dial and indicator, with only the case differing.
Light White
Because the case is made of ceramic composite material rather than pure ceramic, its surface has a texture and a slight sheen. These characteristics stem from the glass fiber and carbon fiber sheets within the composite material, which also explains the visible woven texture within the composite. While the Lightspeed case is white, this ceramic composite material can be made in various colors, so more different styles may be released in the future.
The size and structure of this ceramic composite case are the same as the carbon fiber composite case launched in 2024. Although its style is similar to the original UR-100 series watches with traditional metal alloy cases, its structure is completely different due to the properties of ceramic.
This watch features a double-layer case structure, with the movement housed in a titanium inner case, which is nested within a ceramic composite outer case. Like other Urwerk watches, the case back is made of titanium.
The Lightspeed watch is powered by the UR 12.02 movement, the same movement used in other models in the UR-100V series. The base movement is manufactured by Vaucher, hence the "V" suffix in the model name. Its appearance differs significantly from typical Vaucher movements, as its usual rotor is replaced by Urwerk's "Windfänger" automatic winding mechanism. The "Windfänger" is a turbine-like automatic winding mechanism used to regulate the winding speed.

The dial features Urwerk's in-house time display module, showing the hours and minutes via orbiting satellites. This "wandering hour" display has been a signature design of Urwerk since its inception. Three aluminum satellites are mounted on an aluminum rotating base, which is fixed to the Arcap baseplate. One satellite's disc indicates the current hour, while the minutes are displayed on the scale at the lower edge of the dial.
The upper half of the dial integrates an astronomical time display, showing the time it takes for sunlight to reach each planet. For example, it takes 8.3 minutes for Earth and 6 minutes for Venus. This is not a separate complication but an indicator integrated into the time display.
